Confused about Burger Menus? Here’s what they are!
During the summer break, I was lucky enough to be taken out by someone special for a delicious lunch.
Before we went, I suggested they check the restaurant’s website to make sure the kitchen was still open (we’d left it a bit late!).
Them: "I can’t find the opening hours anywhere!"
Me: "Click on the burger menu and select 'Contact.' It should be on that page if nowhere else."
Them: "I can’t see a burger menu?"
Me: "It should be on the top right of the screen."
Them: "I can only see Brunch Menu, Mains, Sides… They don’t have a Burger Menu."
Me: "...???"
Then it clicked!
Me: "Oh! (laughing) Sorry!! The 'burger menu' is a little icon that looks like three stacked lines—like a burger. Can you see it?"
Them: "No..."
…What was actually happening here? The website had no navigation menu at all! (But that’s a whole other story...)
The moral of the story?
Don’t assume everyone knows the terminology you use in your industry. This was especially easy to misunderstand since we were looking at a restaurant website, so “burger menu” sounded like food!
It was a great reminder for me not to take things like this for granted—because honestly, five years ago, I didn’t know what a burger menu was either!
In this post I've used loroeats.com website as the final example, as I loved it's design! It's located in the USA.
