Understanding the importance of great branding

When Tylor, Owner and Founder of Off The Hook Bar & Eatery, first made contact with me he was searching for a designer who was just a single person and not a big company, because he felt that a smaller design company would be able to tailor something more specific to his business and listen to his ideas.

Tylor knew he needed a professional logo and branding as he was wishing to create an upmarket bar on Auckland's waterfront. He understood that branding is the face of the business and needs to look presentable, professional and match his business needs.

Ideas and development

After lots of research into other seafood bars, and other restaurants in the area, I presented a variety of looks to Tylor. After narrowing down some of the moodboards I began looking into the logo creation using the ideas and concepts Tylor and I had come up with together.

Below is a collection of some of the initial concepts I played around with. I then narrowed these ideas down to 3 which I presented to Tylor.

Creating a strong and impactful brand

Following approval of the logo and branding concepts I continued to develop the overall brand for Tylor's restaurant. Below are some of the final art files created for Off The Hook.

Instagram Design for Restaurants | Wellington Web Design
I ensured the Off The Hook brand was continued across social media, and also for these square business cards which were finished with matt-lamination for a luxurious feel and look.

Menu Design for Restaurants | Wellington Web Design
The branding flows through all elements, including the food menu. Finished with matt-lamination to protect the menus and match the business cards.

Drinks Menu Design for Restaurants | Wellington Web Design
With lots of drink options we chose a tri-fold menu in the same proportions as the food menu, again finished with matt-lamination for protection and appearance.

To continue the restaurant aesthetics we ensured the customer notices were also on brand. This is a mock-up image.

Website Design and Build

For now, Tylor wanted a simple landing page for Off The Hook, ensuring customers can easily view opening times and book via email. Watch this space for the final development of this site!

How did you imagine your own branding ideas before engaging my services?
"My branding ideas were masculine and handwritten."

What were your pain points before hiring me – did you have any hesitations?
"Not really, I wanted to hire a designer that was just a single person and not a big company because I thought that a smaller design company would be able to tailor something more specific to my business and listen to my ideas."

What made you decide to hire a professional to assist you?
"I knew I would need a professional logo and branding being an upmarket bar on Auckland's waterfront."

How do you feel now you have new branding?
"Great! I love the branding and it matches what the business is, the interior design and location."

How do your customers react about you look?
"Customers love the branding too! They think it looks great. The branding has received many compliments on the professional stylish look and simple but sophisticated details being reflective of the business and location. Customers like the way the logo has been broken up and used as branding and the other branding graphics used also."

Does your look help you feel more professional?
"Yes, absolutely! Your website says it best. The branding is like the face of the business and needs to look presentable, professional and match your business needs."
